Can I book a trip that leaves soon?

Only if it leaves at least 22 days from now. Every Defera trip departs at least 22 days after you book, so a trip that leaves sooner can't be booked on Defera, even if you'd like to pay for it all at once.

We know that's disappointing when you need to travel soon. The upside is that the earliest date is easy to spot, and booking further ahead gives you more choice in how you pay.

  • The calendar starts 22 days out. The first date you can pick is 22 days from today, and earlier dates can't be selected.
  • Checkout follows the same rule. Search and checkout both start 22 days ahead, so a closer date can't be booked at a later step either.
  • Round trips work the same way. Both flights need to be at least 22 days away. Your return always comes after your departure, so your departure date is the one to check.

For example, a trip that leaves 22 days from today can be booked, but a trip that leaves one day sooner can't.

Can I pay in full to book a closer date?

No. The rule applies to every trip, however you pay, so paying for the whole trip at checkout doesn't change it.

What if my dates are flexible?

Look at departures 22 or more days from today. Searching nearby dates and times can also bring up different routings, so it's worth trying a few.

How can I keep what I pay at booking low?

Your deposit options depend on how far away your trip is, and they can be as low as 5% on trips more than 90 days away. So booking further ahead can mean paying less today.

On refundable fares from American, United, Southwest, JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic, Defera Zero lets you book with nothing due at checkout.
