Fees, explained
Your trip total already includes the fare with airline taxes and carrier fees, plus Defera's service fee and hold fee. There's no interest, and there are no hidden fees. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay.
A few optional services have their own fee, like skipping a payment. You pay one of those only if you choose that service.
What's in my trip total?
Two Defera fees are built into every trip total:
- Service fee: covers dedicated support throughout your payment plan.
- Hold fee: covers paying for your trip over time, instead of all at once.
Each one appears in the Price Breakdown on the checkout page, with a small info icon that gives a one-line explanation.
What does the Price Breakdown show?
The Price Breakdown lists your trip's cost line by line, in this order:
- Base fare, after any credits applied
- Service fee
- Seat selection, if you chose seats ("Free" when it's included)
- Subtotal, before the hold fee
- Hold fee
- Trip total
It's open by default on your checkout page, and you can collapse it and open it again. After booking, your Trip Statement carries the pricing for your trip.
Are prices shown with fees included?
Yes. Prices are shown all-in by default: fares include airline taxes and carrier fees, and the trip total includes the service and hold fees. So the price you see isn't a base price that grows later.
If you switch your search results to show base fares instead, those are labeled as a fare, not a total. Checkout always shows your full trip total.
The one exception is Flight + Hotel trips, where the hotel may collect some fees at check-in. Those are labeled on your trip.
What optional fees are there?
These fees apply only if you choose the service:

None of these is charged unless you use the service. The Skip Payment fee can't be waived.
For example, if you pick new payment dates in the morning and change them again that afternoon, you pay $25 once, not twice.

What's free?
- Switching between weekly and bi-weekly with Change Schedule: no fee, and nothing is charged today.
- Paying ahead, paying extra or paying off early: no fee and no penalty.
