Weekly or bi-weekly payments

Defera payment plans run on one of two schedules: weekly, or bi-weekly (every two weeks). You choose yours at checkout. If your trip shows Change Schedule, you can switch between the two later, with no fee and nothing charged today.

Monthly payments aren't offered. If you'd like to pay less often, you can still set your own rhythm with Pay ahead, which we explain below.

How do weekly and bi-weekly compare?

The difference is how often you pay, and how much each payment is:

WeeklyBi-weekly
How often you're chargedEvery weekEvery two weeks
Size of each paymentSmallerLarger
Number of paymentsMoreFewer

If the size of each payment matters most to you, weekly keeps each one smaller. If you'd rather have fewer charges, bi-weekly does that.

Either way, every payment is charged automatically to your card on file, the debit or credit card saved to your plan. Before you book, your checkout page shows how many payments you'll make, how much each one is and the date of the last one.

Can I switch later?

Yes, if your trip shows Change Schedule. It's free, and nothing is charged today.

  1. Open Trips and tap your trip.
  2. In the Payment Schedule section, tap Change Schedule.
  3. Compare your current and new dates and amounts, side by side.
  4. If the new schedule works for you, confirm.

When you switch, your remaining balance is spread across the new schedule, and every future date is recalculated. Payments you've already made stay as they are.

For example, say you have $600 left to pay on a bi-weekly plan (an example amount). If you switch to weekly, that $600 is spread across more, smaller payments, one every week. The side-by-side preview shows your exact new amounts and dates before you confirm, so you'll know what to expect.

What if I don't see Change Schedule?

Change Schedule is available on Defera Zero and on newer Defera Installments plans. On some older Defera Installments plans, the same spot shows Request Extension instead, which lets you move your final payment date later for a $35 fee.

Can I pay monthly?

Monthly payments aren't offered, but you can create a similar rhythm with Pay ahead, inside Make a Payment. Pay ahead lets you pay your next installments today, and your next automatic charge moves back to match.

For example, on a bi-weekly plan, you could use Pay ahead to pay two installments at once. That covers about four weeks, and your card isn't charged again until the payment after those two comes due.

Pay ahead means paying more today, so it suits a moment when you have the money on hand. If a payment is going to be hard to make, look at your options when you can't pay on time instead.

Need a payment on a particular date?

On plans that offer it, Change Schedule also includes Pick my own dates. It lets you choose the date of your next payment, for a $25 fee that covers every date change you make that day.
